Life's Piano

i rested my fingers on the ivory white keys
pressing softly one note at a time
it made me feel lonely like the single note
so i added a chord now three notes at a time
at first my fingers moved slowly
they felt like they were stiff and wrong
when i played a mistake i corrected my fingers
mentally telling them to get it right the next song
my fingers started moving faster almost on their own
they went down the keys like a waterfall
and then up the keys like a bird in flight
things like learning can be simple for some
but most don't sit down at life's piano (one might)
and play songs automatically without one thought
they play it, beginning with one note at a time.
